Since 2010, Hyundai Motor America has partnered with The East Los Angeles Community Union (TELACU) Education Foundation in a comprehensive educational initiative. The TELACU College Advisement and Leadership Program (CALP) is the key support system that ensures the academic success of Scholars through graduation and beyond. CALP provides skill-building seminars, counseling, peer mentoring and leadership development activities. Internships and mentoring relationships with corporate partners further equip and prepare the TELACU Scholars for their chosen careers.
This initiative includes sponsorship of the Hyundai Scholars program where undergraduate college students work as interns for TELACU in the areas of business, health care, and social services. In 2012, Hyundai Motor America made a 3-year commitment to the Hyundai Scholar / TELACU Internship program by funding CALP to support 10 interns per year staring in the 2012-2013 academic school year.
In addition, Hyundai is also a continuing sponsor of the TELACU Annual Scholarship Awards Gala where the Hyundai scholars are recognized by TEALCU for their academic accomplishments. This year, the Scholarship Awards Gala will be help on June 8, 2013 at the exciting LA Live entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles.
